Case: 20 November 2018

Summary

Multi-day open cell event with precipitating cumulus

Description

A multi-day open cell event (November 20-21st) with scattered cumulus and precipitating cumulus on the first day, and more frequent clouds throughout the following day. Winds were light and from the north on both days. The melting level was observed at approximately 2.0 km AGL and lowering to 1.5 km by the end of day on 20 November. Most precipitating cumulus cloud tops were observed to exceed 3.0-3.5 km AGL. Scattered high cloud decks were observed on both days, however these clouds remain outside the primary Azores modeling region.
